When we dont want to live in balance with nature, we must at least implement wind turbines whether we like them or not.Written by Lea Vangstrup, President of Wind People Renewable energy is only used to a very limited extend in the global society of today even there is an urge for eliminating the CO2 emissions from fossil fuels. Scientist are trying to develop the renewable energy technologies in order to implement more renewable energy in our energy sectors. However the global society is suffering the lack of will or ability to implement the already developed tecnologies in a large scale already to day while we wait for the new technologies to mature. One of the most developed and market mature renewable energy tecnologies is wind power. Wind power has been recognised as a profitable business which can contribute siginicantly to our reduction of CO2 eminissions if only implemented. Today the world has in total implemented the same amount of turbines as the potentiential of wind power alone in for instance the nation of Brazil. There is many other countries besides Brazil where it would be obvious to make large scale implementations of wind turbines. The potential of gaining CO2 neutral energy form this source is therefore huge. Establishment of wind turbines have a visual impact on our environment. Wind turbines do though have the advantage that they can easily be taken down without major impacts on the original enviroment, the day the science of the world have developed a more porfitable tecgnology for our supplies of energy within respect of our environment, though as long as we get to handle the residue of worn out turbines responsibly. Who owns the wind?Large scale implementations of wind turbines is not the first priority of the already established electricity companies all over the world. There is a range of reasons for the turbines not be be implemented in large scale. Interests in the fossil fuels and the lobbying related to this delays the implementation process. The electricity companies furthermore fears the complications of flutuations related to large inputs from wind turbines, which though can be handled responsibly today. The large private investors who additionally to the electicity companies can initiate and forward the implementation of the turbines are lacking the necessity of political preparations and guidelines before they use resources on entering the market. The market potential has been realised in the governments of many countries. In development countries however the implementation of large scale renewable energy systems are a huge obligation and reduction of CO2-emissions maybe not be the first priority when the countries are struggling with major poverty problems, when fossile fuels are still available, and in terms of operation are competitive or even a cheaper alternative to the renewable energy technologies. The national governments are lacking the motivation and support for large scale implementation of for instance wind turbines and do therefore delay the development of national regulatives which could increase the use of these technologies. The very moment a country will develop the regulatives for these technologies the large international investors will come forward and try to cover the market potential and gain the profit of the investments. The wind potential in most countries are though located often in coastal regions where the local population is already living. A large scale implementation of turbines will cause an impact on the environment. It is therefore very important that the local population can accept to live next to the turbines and can understand the benefit of the major constructions. Otherwise the implementation will face major resistance from the local population. Furthermore we must remind ourselves that national treasures belongs to the people, - the wind is one of the largest national treasures of the people, so naturally it shall belong to the people and benefit the people, The Wind People. Changes can be achieved - it only demands actionThe Foundation of Wind People has been established this year in order to bring awareness, knowledge and support to the governments in all countries, but especially to the development countries, in order to make them capable of understanding their own potential of large scale implementations of wind turbines. Wind People’s aim is to develop national programs together with the governments and the national energy sector in each development country and to influence the governments and energy sectors in all other countries . The aims of introducing these programs are:
Tail wind for educationThe target of wind people is to establish as many turbines as needed towards year 2030 in order to utilise every nations full potential of wind power, to the extend it is needed, as long as it is established within respect of environment and habitat. The turbines shall to the extend it is possible be owned by the people. In all attempts of Wind People the majority of the profit of the established turbines shall benefit the poorest population groups of a society and especially the children within this population group. One of the major activities will be to initiate educational programs ensuring the children their right and access to education. The rest and limited part of the profit shall contribute to the development and implementation of renewable energy systems. Wind people especially sees it as our responsibility to support and participate in the development of how to intergrate wind turbines in a large scale in our energy systems, an obligation we need to carry out in cooperation with all actors of our societies from government to citicens. |
