Wind People is a non-profit humanitarian organization dedicated to help countries estimate whether they have any significant wind resources which can be used for electricity production and to help them develop

the utilisation of these resources, provided these wind projects are developed in favour of the local population and environment.

The idea behind Wind People is to help countries use the full potential of their wind resources, if possible up to 50 % of that country’s electricity demand, through the use of wind energy. Wind People originated in Denmark, which can boast of know-how harvested from 30 years of experience with wind turbines, the longest of any country in the world. It has also been proven that we now have the technology which makes it possible to run a national electric grid in which 50% of the input comes from wind turbines.

Not all countries have a significant wind potential. Particularly in some warmer countries, the potential can be insignificant. The strength of wind energy differs from country to country. In warm countries wind

speeds of 6 m/sec contain less energy than cold wind at the same speed. Measurements of wind speed at 10 meters above ground level will be very different from wind speeds measured at the same spot at a height of 80 meters, underlining the necessity of taking the right measurements.

In some countries, there are significant wind resources, but the resources may be in inaccessible areas.

It is therefore necessary to develop a wind map of the individual country in order to estimate the actual resources it possesses. Wind resources for an area can be calculated as a combination of existing annual data of the region combined with specific measurements on the location over a period of 3 months. Thus, in many places, a wind map can be made within quite a short time period.
